Video Transcript: How to Replace a Cooker Hot Plate Control Switch

In this video we will be showing you how to replace a hot plate control switch on an Indesit K3E1 cooker.

IMPORTANT: BEFORE REPLACING A PART IN ANY ELECTRICAL APPLIANCE, YOU MUST ENSURE THAT THE APPLIANCE IS FIRST UNPLUGGED FROM THE MAINS.

If your cooker ring is not working correctly or the cooker blows the fuse and you have checked the element you may need to replace the selector switch. To begin remove the control panel, to do this requires the removal of the heat guard by undoing the screws here.

If you've identified the faulty control, remove the knob and one mounting screw then remove these two screws under the panel and simply push it to the side to unhook it.

With the panel loose if the cooker is blowing fuses carefully look at the switch contacts on all the selectors. One of these may show black or burnt areas when the electricity has flashed over. Replace any switch to show signs of melting or burning.

Take a photo of the faulty switch connections, before transferring the wires one at a time to the correct terminal on the new switch. Fit the control panel onto its locating lugs and push it over into its correct positions, then refit screws and the knob.

Refit the screws and heat shield before turning the supply back on, and finally test the repair.
