UK Consumers Waste Hundreds Replacing Kitchen Appliances

02/09/11

Revamped household spares and accessories website offers money saving tips and advice to beat the recession with diy appliance repairs. If the washing machine or oven stops working then it can be expensive to replace. However, leading spare parts retailer, BuySpares have redesigned their website to help more people take advantage of do-it-yourself appliance repairs and save money.

Until recently, if a kitchen appliance failed most people would simply buy a replacement, often without even considering a repair. But with everyone looking to make saving wherever possible, more and more people are releasing that they can fix their faulty appliance for a fraction of the £400+ a replacement is likely to cost.

The aim of new website is to make repairing appliances more accessible. It offers consumers a host of new features to make buying and fitting spare parts easy.

BuySpares Director Dave Holden believes that: "many people are put off attempting diy repairs on appliances as they think it requires a lot of technical skill. In fact many appliance spares simply push or clip into place and replacing the faulty part yourself can save a small fortune."

The new look website features a customer advice centre offering tips and advice for cleaning and maintaining appliances including step by step guides to demonstrate how easy it is to fit common parts like washing machine door seals and vacuum cleaner belts. Alongside this, consumers can use a new 'ease of fit' barometer to gauge how difficult the part is to fit. It ranges from easy to expert, with parts labelled as easy suitable for almost anyone to fit.

A simplified navigation, detailed model number guides, exploded diagrams and product quick finders - which enable the customer to quickly filter through BuySpares range of more than 1.5 million spare parts and accessories - have been added to make it quick and easy to identify the correct part for a specific appliance model. BuySpares customers also have greater choice when it comes to payment options with the additions of Google Checkout and PayPal to complement their existing checkout process. And with Comodo Security accreditation customers can buy with confidence.

Dave Holden states "the website has lots of features that make it really simple for our customers to find the part they need as well as straightforward information on how to fit it. These developments will hopefully give more people the confidence to tackle small repairs themselves and reap the money saving benefits."

"Our advice centre is another reason to choose BuySpares alongside our commitment to low prices. With our Price Match Promise our customers can purchase parts safe in the knowledge that should they find the exact same part for less elsewhere we will refund the difference. It's our aim to ensure diy appliance repairs always represent value for money."
