Replacing a Drive Belt on a Beko Vented Tumble Dryer

Replacing a broken belt on a Beko tumble dryer is not an easy job, and even some engineers struggle to refit the belt over the motor.

However, this article should make the repair easier for you to undertake.

Firstly, disconnect or isolate the appliance from the electrical supply.

Remove the top of the appliance and look where the mains filter is located, it’s usually at the top of the back on the right. Take a photo of the connections as a reference when reassembling the appliance later on, before disconnecting the filter from the rest of the machine.

Unscrew and remove the inspection plate and vent pipe at the bottom right of the rear of the dryer, before unscrewing all the screws from around the back panel that hold it to the main cabinet.

Carefully move the back with the drum assembly away from the cabinet until there is enough space to reach the connectors of the heater in the bottom left. Reach behind the panel and separate the connector.

At this point the back and the drum should now be free to draw apart from the rest of the dryer, so lift away carefully and ensure no additional connections are still holding these parts together.

Check that the drums front felt seal is in good condition and replace if necessary. Also check that the front lip of the drum is not contaminated with adhesive from the front seal. If it is necessary to clean it take care as the drum edges can be very sharp, so wear safety gloves.

Loosely loop the new belt around the centre of the drum and, using the belt as a carry loop, lift the drum and back assembly into position in the cabinet. Remember to reconnect the heater plug at the bottom left, before finally pushing the drum and back into position.

Screw the back assembly in place making sure the drum rotates freely, and reconnect the mains filter.

Next, to connect the belt onto the motor spindle find a cylindrical object slightly larger than the spindle such as a small spark plug socket on a socket extension shaft, locate the belt into its rough position and pass the tube through the belt and over the end of the spindle.

Lever the tube, stretching the belt until the tube is in line with the motor spindle and push the tube and belt further onto the motor. Rotating the tube and tilting it down at the same time, gently work the belt over the motor spindle and the tube progressively away from the motor, leaving the belt in place.

With a little practice this belt will stretch into position. Rotate the drum by hand to ensure the belt is in the correct position at the centre of the motor spindle.

Refit the vent hose connection pipe and the cover back into position and refit screws, you may find it easier to pass a hand through this pipe to help locate the motor duct and fan assembly.

Finally, check over all connections before fitting the top and testing.
