Finding the cordless phone battery for you

If a cordless phone battery has died and won't recharge then it's time to look for a replacement. When it comes to buying a replacement cordless phone battery, you can choose either a genuine replacement cordless phone battery or a pattern cordless phone battery.

Cordless Phone Batteries

Genuine Cordless Phone Batteries: these are 'like for like' replacements from the original manufacturer, although please note that genuine replacement batteries are not always available for every model and this will depend on the brand.

Pattern Cordless Phone Batteries: these are made by a third party and are usually produced to match or surpass the quality of a genuine battery. Often pattern batteries are manufactured by specialist battery brands.

Our finder is the easiest way to find the right battery to fit your cordless phone. You simply need to enter your make of cordless phone and the model number. If you don't know your model number it will usually be printed on the casing or base of the cordless phone.

How to replace a cordless phone battery

Here are a few simple steps to help you replace your cordless phone battery

The battery in a cordless phone will usually last for a couple of years before it needs to be replaced. However, this will depend largely on the type of battery your cordless phone uses. If the cordless phone has started to beep while you're talking to your friends or it no longer holds charge for more than a few minutes, it needs to be replaced.

  1. Check that the existing battery is dead and does not simply need recharging.
  2. Locate the battery cover on the phone and remove it.
  3. Take the battery out carefully and unplug any connectors.
  4. Check the specifications printed on the battery label and order a replacement cordless phone battery using our finder.
  5. Connect the new battery and position the battery into place before re-fitting the battery cover.
  6. Place the cordless phone in the charger and allow enough time for the battery to fully charge before removing the phone.

Types of cordless phone battery

There are several different type of cordless phone battery available so when yours needs replacing it is important to make sure you buy a battery with the same chemistry. There are 3 main types of chemistry:

Lithium Ion (Li-ion): most modern cordless phones use lithium ion batteries as they offer the same energy as Nickel Metal Hydride batteries but weigh less. Li-ion batteries differ from other types as the do not suffer from the memory effect.

Nickel Cadmium (Ni-cd): if your cordless phone uses a Ni-cd battery then it is important you allow it to fully discharge before recharging to benefit from its full capacity.

Nickel Metal Hydride (Ni-MH): these tend to offer greater capacity and higher energy densities than the nickel cadmium.
