How to get the best performance from your tumble dryer

Tumble dryers are perfect if you don't have the outdoor or indoor space to hang your wet washing, or if you simply want your clothes to be dried as quickly as possible.

Below are some important tips and advice on how to use your tumble dryer most effectively, efficiently, and to see the results in your clothes:

1.Keep the filters clean and clear - Ideally you should clean the lint trap after every load as this will not only help your dryer to run more efficiently but will reduce the risk of fire through overheating. The lint trap is usually situated on the inside

2. Don't overload - your garments need room to move around and allow the hot air to flow more effectively through the drum, otherwise you will find that drying time is increased and the tumble dryer will work less efficiently.

3. Don't attempt to dry large or bulky items such as cushions or duvets in a domestic tumble dryer, as they may not allow sufficient air flow.

4.Use "Tumble Dryer Balls" - these relax the fibres in your clothes which gives a naturally soft effect, eliminating the need for fabric softener. They can also reduce drying time by helping to separate out the garments as they tumble.

5.Don't tumble dry woollen items unless otherwise directed by the garment's care label, as this could cause shrinkage. Delicate clothes may be dried on the 'delicate' setting, if your drier has one, but only if the care label specifies that they are safe to

6.Avoid creasing by removing your clothes from the tumble dryer as soon as the cycle is finished

7.Save energy (and money!) by drying similar fabrics together, ensuring that the machine isn't overloaded, and by spinning your wash-load to remove as much excess water as possible before loading the garments into the tumble dryer.

BuySpares Top Tip:
Many people do not bother to read the instruction book for their tumble dryer. In some cases you may miss important information regarding items like the cool down cycle that can cause the dryer to stop heating if not followed correctly. Try re reading the instruction books for your appliances "after" you have been using it to find any information you may have missed.
