The fan oven element is responsible for heating the oven cavity in order to cook the food. In an electric cooker when the cooker knob is turned on, electricity flows to the element which causes it to heat up. Once the element reaches the desired temperature then the electricity flow switches on and off to maintain the temperature. This process is controlled by the thermostat.
Oven elements fail when the internal element filament burns out, this can cause the element to short circuit. There may be visible signs the element has blown such as a split, bulge, or blow hole on the element. Other signs of a failed element include; the oven not heating up, the oven blowing out cold air or bright spots during use.
The causes of element failure
There are a number of factors that can cause an oven element to blow. Damage due to the expansion and contraction of the element coils caused by the element constantly heating up and cooling down is a very common cause. While other causes of element failure can include overheating as a result of a failed thermostat or in some cases a build-up of grease causing the fan motor to run slowly.

We had the same oven failure a few years ago, so I had a good idea it was the fan element. A quick removal of the back cover inside the oven revealed a damaged element. A few days later when the replacement arrived it took about 5 minutes to change it. Oven now working again.

When the oven stopped working and the cost of replacing it was high I looked into seeing if I could repair it,so glad I did,after a search on the net I found the element was the problem,the cost was small and fitting it is easy a 10min job,so glad I did not just get a new oven .
